Roxbury Cultural District Keeps Moving Forward

12.01.2016

MPDC has been a leader on obtaining state designation for a Roxbury Cultural District (RCD) and on November 30 the Boston City Council unanimously approved a required resolution supporting the creation of RCD. The resolution was sponsored by Councilors Tito Jackson and Ayanna Pressley and had the support of City Council President Michelle Wu, who chairs the Council’s Art & Culture Committee. Mayor Martin Walsh also wrote a letter of support for RCD and on December 5 the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) toured Dudley and Eliot Squares and held two roundtable discussions with municipal leaders, Roxbury stakeholders, and youth at Roxbury Community College and Hibernian Hall. It is hoped MCC will vote for final approval of the Cultural District in early 2017.
