SUMMARY:For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf (Feb. 15-25)
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \n“For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf\,” by Ntozake Shange opens at Hibernian Hall on February 15\, 2018.  The show is being produced by Praxis Stage\, as the second play in its 2nd season.  “For Colored Girls…” made a huge impact in American theater in 1976\, winning an Obie for poet/playwright Ntozake Shange\, and then being nominated for a Tony in Best Play that very same year when Shange made history as only the second Black woman to have a play produced on Broadway.  Revivals of the play continue to be performed\, and in 2010 Shange updated the play to address the HIV epidemic. \nComposed of 21 poems\, linked by dance and music\, and delivered by seven women\, “For Colored Girls…” combines choreography and original contemporary music with the original score that features 1960s and 1970s R&B and jazz. \nDirected by Dayenne C.B. Walters\, the production will run at Roxbury’s Hibernian Hall for 12 performances.  February 15-25. \nTickets: $20 (online and at door) and available online at: www.artful.ly/praxis-stage.com \nPerformance Dates:\nThursdays\, 2/15 and 2/22\, 7:00pm\nFridays\, 2/16 and 2/23\, 8pm\nSaturdays\, 2/17 and 2/24\, Matinees: 3pm\, Evenings: 8pm\nSundays\, 2/18 and 2/25\, Matinees: 2pm\, Evenings: 7:30pm \nFor more information\, contact Daniel Boudreau\, praxisstagecompany@gmail.com. \nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:Roxbury International Film Festival at Hibernian Hall
DESCRIPTION:Hibernian Hall is thrilled to be a host venue for the screening of two films during the 2017 Roxbury International Film Festival. \nStreet Scenes 15\nDirected by Robert Lamothe\nStreet Scenes 15 shows the passion\, dedication\, and excitement of the people that are part of the Fight for 15 movement to gain a livable minimum wage. As a movie goer\, it’s very enjoyable to see the expressions of joy and determination on the faces of people dedicated to making economic social justice a reality. Lively social justice music was a big part of the rallies and marches that makes Street Scenes 15 great fun to watch. Passionate and informative speakers bring home the great need for a $15 an hour minimum wage that is an important part of the current national debate. It was filmed from 2014 to 2016 in Boston Massachusetts. \nI Know A Man…Ashley Bryan\nDirected by Richard Kane\n“I Know a Man … Ashley Bryan” is a story about a 93 year-old artist who skips and jumps in his mind like a child. Yet he is a spiritually deep and erudite creative genius and poet/illustrator of 50 children’s books\, maker of magical puppets and sea glass windows from found objects inspired by his African heritage. Ashley lives on the remote Cranberry Islands off the coast of Maine and has been using art his entire life to celebrate joy\, mediate the darkness of war and racism\, explore the mysteries of faith\, and create loving community. \nGeneral Admission: $12 \nBuy Tickets\nFor more information on the 2017 Roxbury International Film Festival visit:\nhttp://www.mfa.org/programs/series/the-roxbury-international-film-festival

SUMMARY:Forget Me Not
DESCRIPTION:African Americans Against Alzheimer’s is a network of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s\, an innovative advocacy organization demanding and delivering a solution to Alzheimer’s.  African Americans Against Alzheimer’s is the preeminemt voice in and for the African American community on Alzheimer’s and its disproportionate impact on African Americans.  Through the award winning stage play Forget Me Not\, they reach communities nationwide to build appreciation for and participation in clinical trials by African Americans. \nForget Me Not takes the audience into the life of a family facing this medical challenge and shows its impact on not just the immediate family but friends\, marriage\, and those in the community as well.  Many have left the theater realizing there are people close to them who may have signs pointing to Alzheimer’s. Thanks to a panel of experts presented during the event\, they leave equipped with answers to important questions about medical and social services that are available in their communities and learn how researchers are working to find ways to prevent and more effectively treat Alzheimer’s- important work that requires each of us– especially African Americans who are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than others– to consider participating in clinical trials. \nReserve seats here.
