SUMMARY:Queer People of Color Art Showcase - Fierce Urgency of Now!
DESCRIPTION:During The Fierce Urgency of Now (F.U.N) festival\, we will be celebrating queer people of color. This event seeks queer artists of color to showcase their art with the theme of what it’s like to be a QPOC in Boston. Whether it be spoken word\, a song\, art pieces\, or any medium they choose\, we want them to be able to showcase their work and be listened to. After the showcase\, we’ll have a debrief/panel with the artists. Questions are welcome at the end but we first want to hear from the artists about their experiences\, and what they want us to know about their struggle. They deserve a space to have their voices heard. \nBeing an ally is important. Please come and hear from the marginalized folks in our society\, and support their art. \nProgram: (Subject to change) \n5:30pm-6:30pm \nShowcasing of art. Walk around to view the art these talented young people created. Ask questions and engage. Buy their pieces! \n6:30pm-7:30pm \nVisual performances. Spoken-word\, poetry\, music\, dance\, etc. \n7:30pm-8:00pm \nPanel with the artists. Sit and listen to the current plight of queer folks\, what makes them happy and feel safe\, and what you can do to support. \nWhat is the Fierce Urgency of Now Festival? \nA five-day series of events hosted by local businesses and organizations geared at highlighting the experiences\, challenges\, and opportunities for young professionals of color in our city with the ultimate goal of creating community. \nWith more than 30 events scheduled\, you can plan to learn\, connect\, and have fun all week long\, while also lending your voice to change. Join us September 4-8 to help make Boston more inclusive for all. \nWhy Am I Involved in F.U.N? \nAs a queer Black woman\, my voice is rarely heard. Being able to have a platform to uplift the voices of other marginalized folks in my community is extremely important to me. What also is important to me is getting people that call themselves allies to show up and listen. Learn how you can help\, and what you can do to support the Queer youth of color in Boston. \nIf you are interested in performing please contact Zhane Burton at zhaneburtonr@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Radical Black Girl presents: MY CITY\, MY BODY a multi-media performance and dialogue
DESCRIPTION:Radical Black Girl will be kicking off Hibernian Hall’s new artist residency program “SOL*ARTS” with the first iteration of their traveling research and performance project called \n“My City\, My Body or If Concrete Could Talk or For Those Who May Be Traumatized.”\nOn March 18\, 2019\, twenty-five young women and girls from Youth Options Unlimited will join founder\, Destiny Polk\, for a week of embodied research through movement\, poetry\, and storytelling. The intention of this project is to identify and address violence in its many manifestations\, unpack the different ways our bodies carry memory and trauma and examine how we treat ourselves and each other after experiencing violence. Destiny will be leading the group through body awareness\, writing exercises\, and choreography and performance building\, inviting the young women to practice agency over their bodies while inviting them to re-imagine what safety\, security\, and solidarity look like in practice in the city of Boston. \nThe community sharing and forum will be held on Saturday\, March 23\, at 5 PM\, where folks are invited to participate in an open dance cypher lead by Destiny. The group will perform original work based off their week of research together\, and they will close with an open discussion on issues identified by our young people. \nA note from Destiny Polk: “I couldn’t think of a place most calling for healing and most deserving to be heard than my own home city\, Boston. I intend to work with a range of age groups over time\, incorporating the voices of formerly incarcerated folks and those most impacted by violence. The driving question for the larger project is “If your city were a body\, what injuries or sickness has it endured? How would you go about healing it?” I see Boston as the initiator and I look forward to uncovering truths over the next year before bringing the residency and conversation to a national level.”
