SUMMARY:Savor the Square
DESCRIPTION:Savor the Square on October 24th: Fall Harvest & Beer Garden (2:00 pm – 6:00 pm) at the Blair Parking Lot in Nubian Square\n with local vendors\, food\, music\, performances\, and more! Please RSVP on Eventbrite here.\n#SavortheSquare takes an inclusive approach to address documented challenges (business development\, wealth creation\, and physical connections) facing the community so that economic needs are not left to chance in the face of change in Nubian Square.\nThese will be addressed in three important ways:\n1. Cultivating a new Roxbury amenity that sparks positive energy and fun\, encourages civic engagement\, helps to jump-start the civic and business revitalization of Nubian Square\, and creates a buzz while helping to improve the business climate and increase connections between Roxbury residents and visitors from surrounding neighborhoods;\n2. Supplying fresh\, healthy\, locally-grown and -produced food to Roxbury residents helping to offset the acknowledged food desert; and\n3. Activating a high-visibility public space with food\, art\, and entertainment helping to bring more foot traffic and pedestrian vitality to Nubian Square.

SUMMARY:What to Send Up When it Goes Down
DESCRIPTION:What to Send Up When It Goes Down is a community ritual created in response to the deaths of Black people as a result of racialized violence. As lines between characters and actors\, observers and observed blur\, a dizzying series of vignettes build to a climactic moment where performance and reality collide. Meant to disrupt the pervasiveness of anti-blackness and acknowledge the resilience of Black people throughout history\, this theatrical work uses parody\, song\, movement\, and audience participation to create a space for catharsis\, reflection\, cleansing\, and healing. \nThis production takes place at two venues: Hibernian Hall and The Ex.\nRecommended for ages 16+. \nHibernian Hall\n184 Dudley St.\nRoxbury\, MA 02119 \nThe Ex\n64 Brattle Street\nCambridge\, MA 02138

SUMMARY:Hub New Music
DESCRIPTION:Hub New Music (flute\, clarinet\, violin\, cello) showcases 21st-century composers\, including Robert Honstein’s “Soul House” with Urbanity Dance with choreography by Haley Day performed by Urbanity dancers Meg Anderson\, Haley Day\, and Jacob Regan.\nHub New Music was praised by Cleveland Classical for “the sense of care — and even love — that [the group] brings to their playing. This level of deep musicianship requires enough time and rehearsal for the meaning of the music to seep into the musicians’ pores.” \nUrbanity Dance has been a wonderful partner for several Celebrity Series public projects and special workshops\, and the professional company takes the Neighborhood Arts stage for the first time in this exciting multidisciplinary collaboration. \nTickets are $5\, to benefit the Urbanity Dance youth programs. \nhttps://www.celebrityseries.org/productions/hub-new-music/
