


The Youth Programs directly relate to our mission to increase economic self-sufficiency by preparing youth with a strong academic foundation and positioning them for future career success.
Ellis Memorial & Eldredge House, Inc. partnered with Madison Park Development Corporation to form the Ellis Memorial School Age Program at Madison Park Village. Ellis Memorial provides year-round, out-of-school time care for children ages 5- 13 years old. The program is open Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm on school days, with extended hours on school holidays and vacations, including summer vacation. Ellis Memorial provides a variety of fun, educational, recreational and cultural activities for program participants. We offer homework assistance, a reading and math program, positive self-esteem building, cultural awareness activities and more.

Ellis partners with local colleges and universities. One of the most significant collaborations is with Northeastern University. They provide our program with college students who mentor and tutor our children, as well as run a physical fitness program called Fit Kids.
In addition to Northeastern, Ellis also collaborates with Wheelock College and the Big Brothers/BigSisters Association.

As part of its continued commitment to the development of the community, MPDC offers the following scholarship programs.
Ralph D. Smith, MPDC's founding director, was a long-time resident of Lower Roxbury, community leader, and activist. He led the charge to redevelop and restore the acres of land left vacant by urban renewal. When he died in 1998, Mr. Smith left his entire estate to endow a scholarship fund that would help students "who have demonstrated community involvement and service in the Madison Park area." Scholarship recipients may receive up to $3,000 per year. Ralph D. Smith Scholarship recipients are eligible to receive assistance for the full term of their education at a two- or four-year accredited, degree-awarding institution contingent upon the student meeting all scholarship criteria.

Danette Jones served as the second executive director in MPDC's history. MPDC expanded its housing development programs and created various cultural and economic development initiatives under her leadership. Recipients of the Danette Jones Scholarship must demonstrate a commitment to community service and involvement. This scholarship assists the awardees in paying for books related to their post secondary education. Scholarship recipients may receive a one-time award, per student, in an amount between $500 and $1000.
Eligibility & Submission Requirements
The deadline for submitting complete applications for both scholarships is June 6, 2008. The Scholarship Committee notifies all applicants in early July.
