Project Summary: We are pleased to announce that in celebration of its 55th anniversary as a Lower Roxbury community builder, Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC) will coordinate the creation of a major mobile mural as a public art project for the neighborhood.  Led by a local artist-educator, the project will be implemented with the assistance of a crew of up to 6 young people. MPDC seeks an established artist-educator to lead this exciting mural project in Nubian Square, Roxbury beginning June 1 with project completion on or around September 1, 2021.

Eligibility: This request is open to all artist-educators in the city of Boston with a preference for those
familiar with the Roxbury neighborhood, with experience working with young people, and possessing a portfolio that includes completed, successful mural making or other public art project(s).

Compensation: An average of 12 hours a week for up to 14 weeks is anticipated.  The schedule includes collective planning, design, and execution of the mural.  The artist-educator will be compensated for three months of work, paid in three parts:  retaining fee, mid-July, and balance of payment at the completion of the project.

Selection Process: Selection will be made according to the following criteria:  artist statement; quality of work samples, high-level experience as artist-educator; experience and history of work in and around Roxbury, MA.

Submission guidelines: Please submit your c.v., an artist statement, and sample work, including public art projects you have completed.

Artist Statement: The required artist statement should be a one-page statement that addresses interest, relevant artistic experience and experience as an arts educator, your philosophy of public art and your thoughts about murals and mural making as a collective process.

Sample Work: Up to 12 JPGS (only JPGS) of recent work (1200 pixels on the long side), no older than 4 years.  Labeled:  First initial, last name; title; identifying number or title; jpg.

Other Materials: Artists are asked to include one or two media reviews of past projects and/or exhibits or other relevant accomplishments.
