From August through December, the Department of Performing Arts and the Trotter Institute at UMass Boston
are presenting The Emancipated Century
, a staged reading series of August Wilson’s ten-play cycle exploring the history of African Americans in the twentieth century. Honed in Boston before going to Broadway, Wilson’s plays, each set in a separate decade, open a broad lens on twentieth century African American urban culture and history.
As part of this series Hibernian Hall
is pleased to host August Wilson’s Pulitzer-prize winning play “The Piano Lesson”
on September 23 at 7 pm. The event is FREE and open to the public.
About the Piano Lesson
In Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1936, the Charles family battle their surroundings and each other over their shared legacy — an antique piano. The Piano Lesson is a stirring drama about family, history, and survival.
